Spencer's is one of the food shops where we can find a lot of things we want but cannot find in any Indian market. Of course, we also find a lot of things we never found in the shop around the corner in Gaienhofen!
The selection of spices, beans and lentils is impressive ... to us anyway :-) Just help yourself.
Indians seem to like a lot of sweet stuff with no non-artificial additives...
You can also bring your own grain, or buy it here, and have it freshly ground. For free no less!
The section for greens and fruit is rather large, however, organic dito is not on the list. It does not seem to be part of education and we have to hunt to find lettuce that we can actually eat without getting ill. So far the only place is online believe it or not - we ordered lettuce from rawleaf.in once to try it, Ian made a fabulous sallad (as always ;-) ) and we did not get sick - yeah!
On the very spot where these people stand we met a couple from Sweden the other week. Sven Persson and his wife Patricia ... FROM BORSTAHUSEN! They live across from Ankaret and very close to my aunt and cousin. Patricia is originally from Australia, but has lived in Sweden almost as long as I have. Sven works for IKEA - yes, the rumours are true, IKEA will open in India and possibly in Gurgaon even. Very exciting, let's see if it happens while we are still here.
