My new found friend Lara was invited to a fancy dinner and needed a fancy dress. The model was clear already - now for the fabric. Hmmm. Well, a good place to go to buy fabric in Delhi is Nehru Place. So, after breakfast at Eros Hotel with the Delhi Network expat group we crossed the road to go hunting.
Lots of activity everywhere. There is a whole square with only electronics being sold, and the next one with fabrics.
I had expected something very different, don't really know why actually. Maybe the name Nehru Place sounds a bit more glamorous than it really is. Anyway, a very exciting experience. We went to probably about 7 different shops before we found the right material in the right colour.
All the shops deliver and delivery is, whenever at all possible, takes place with a motorbike to get through traffic more smoothly. This is where they are all parked.
Well, sorry to say, I do not at this moment have a picture of the finished dress. However, I can report that Lara looked fabulous in it and the party was a success :-)
